Purpose: To report the efficacy of percutaneous treatment of an orbital venous malformation with an electrolytically detachable fibred coil.
Methods: We report an instance of radiography-guided percutaneous treatment with an electrolytically detachable fibred coil in a 16-year-old boy with acute, spontaneous, painless proptosis on the left side, which progressed with time.
Results: Magnetic resonance imaging, angiography and orbitophlebography revealed a low-flow, intraorbital venous malformation.
The most innovative and meaningful recent advances regarding surgery of the cranial base involve the ability to perform a complete resection followed by a water- and airtight reconstruction while minimizing facial incisions and morbidity. Perhaps the first step in this direction took place when the subcranial/subfrontal approach was introduced for anterior skull base surgery. Originally developed by Raveh in 1978 for the management of severe skull base injuries, these approaches were later adapted for the treatment of congenital anomalies prior to their utilization for resection of anterior skull base tumors.

Dural defects are covered with multiple sheets of fascia lata that provide sufficient support and avoid herniation. Plating along the skull base is contraindicated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn this study, 31 cases with different anterior skull base lesions mandating broad exposure, including the sphenoidal, parasellar, and clival region, were surgically treated using the frameless computer assisted surgery (CAS) system. The contribution of navigated surgery in relation to the broad exposure and direct visualization of this region rendered by the subcranial-subfrontal approach was evaluated. In group I, consisting of extensive tumors, the contribution of CAS was only given in five cases for the exposure of the tumor extensions located to the parasellar sphenoclival complex with concomitant distortion of the anatomic landmarks.

Objectives: To retrospectively evaluate our experience with frontal sinus obliteration using hydroxyapatite cement (BoneSource; Stryker Biotech Europe, Montreux, Switzerland) and compare it with fat obliteration over the approximate same period. Frontal sinus obliteration with hydroxyapatite cement represents a new technique for obliteration of the frontal sinus after mucocele resection.
Methods: Exploration of the frontal sinus was performed using bicoronal, osteoplastic flaps, with mucosal removal and duct obliteration with tissue glue and muscle or fascia.
