Synaptic alterations in pyramidal cells following genetic manipulation of neuronal excitability in monkey prefrontal cortex.

The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) plays a crucial role in primate cognition, integrating multimodal information to generate top-down signals for cognitive control. During cognitive tasks, the DLPFC displays activity patterns of exceptional complexity and duration not observed in other cortical areas or species. These activity patterns are likely associated with the unique physiological and morphological properties of primate DLPFC pyramidal neurons (PNs).

Micronutrients and Major Depression: A Mendelian Randomisation Study.

Background: Various vitamins and minerals have been implicated in the aetiology of depression.

Objective: To estimate the effects of micronutrient exposures on major depressive disorder (MDD) and recurrent depression (rMDD) using Mendelian randomisation (MR), a method using genetic data to estimate causal effects given certain assumptions.

Methods: We undertook a comprehensive bidirectional MR study of multiple micronutrient exposures on MDD and rMDD.

Umbilical cord blood gentamicin concentrations following maternally-administered intrapartum exposures.

We identified cord blood gentamicin concentrations that were higher than anticipated, and above clinical targets for immediate gentamicin re-dosing after birth. Incorporation of gentamicin levels at birth may aid in optimizing postnatal gentamicin dosing among infants exposed to intrapartum gentamicin.
