[Effect of dibutyryl cyclic AMP in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma--intraarterial infusion therapy combined with anticancer agent for hepatocellular carcinoma with portal vein thrombosis].

Dibutyryl cyclic AMP was administered to 7 cases with hepatocellular carcinoma and its tumor thrombosis in portal vein, combined with intraarterial infusion of Mitomycin C or Adriamycin with implanted reservoir. Among these cases, tumor regressed in 5 cases, and therapeutic effect on tumor thrombosis was observed in 4 cases. The median survival time after initial treatment was about 5 months in 5 cases of Vp3, and more than 18 months in 2 cases of Vp2.

Oral adjuvants for viral vaccines in humans.

The availability of various viral vaccines prompted extensive studies on oral adjuvants. In this study, parotid protein (parotin), taurine and lithium were chosen as safe and potent oral adjuvants for rubella and influenza virus vaccines. The anti-rubella virus antibody titres in persons administered orally with parotin were significantly higher than those of persons with the non-adjuvanted vaccines.

Evidence for an involvement of T4+ cytotoxic T cells in tumor immunity.

Cell-mediated immunity against cancer cells primarily involves class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-restricted cytotoxic T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. To investigate whether T4+ cytotoxic T cells also have a role in tumor-specific immunity, mice were immunized with a B cell lymphoma. T cell hybridomas were constructed from the immune spleen cells and analyzed for their cytotoxic ability against the immunizing lymphoma.

Enhancing effects of oral adjuvants on anti-HBs responses induced by hepatitis B vaccine.

Hepatitis B (HB) vaccine is very promising for the prevention of HB infection. There exist, however, some non-responders to current vaccination trials. In this study, taurine, parotin and lithium were selected as adjuvants which can be administered orally.

A novel strategy for immunotherapy using antibody-coupled carriers to focus cytotoxic T helper cells.

Targeting of cytotoxic T cells to cell-bound antigens has previously been reported using bispecific antibodies. In this report we document a novel targeting system whereby cytotoxic T helper (Thc) cells were targeted to a B cell lymphoma by means of an anti-idiotypic antibody (anti-Id), specific for the surface immunoglobulin of the B cell, coupled to the carrier protein keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH). In this system the anti-Id-KLH complex bound to the Id determinant of the surface immunoglobulin of the B cell lymphoma.
