Novel vapor-permeable materials are sought after for applications in protective wear, energy generation, and water treatment. Current impermeable protective materials effectively block harmful agents but trap heat due to poor water vapor transfer. Here we present a new class of materials, vapor permeable dehydrated nanoporous biomimetic membranes (DBMs), based on channel proteins.

Recent advances in electrochemical functionalization using diazonium salts.

Arenediazonium salts have gained attention in the scientific community due to their numerous synthetic applications. In the traditional method of dediazoniation of arenediazonium salts, the requirements for toxic oxidants and costly catalysts affect their cost-effectiveness and sustainability. However, recent advances in synthetic organic electrochemistry allow for the reduction of arenediazonium salts, affording different functionalizations under mild reaction conditions and with a shorter reaction time.

A Case of Bouveret's Syndrome Treated With Holmium:Yttrium-Aluminum-Garnet Laser.

Bouveret's syndrome is a rare form of gallstone ileus described as a gastric outlet obstruction from a gallstone that travels from the gallbladder to the bowel through a bilioenteric fistula. Despite its rarity, the mortality rate of this condition is high. Endoscopic treatment is preferred over surgery due to the association with lower mortality rate.

Assessment of glomerular and tubular function.

At birth, GFR and tubular function of neonates is compromised as compared to older children and adults. These functions are even less developed in premature infants. These facts have a direct bearing on drug dosing, fluid and electrolyte administration, and maintenance of acid-base balance in neonates.

Assessment of relationship between nutrition and growth in pediatric hemodialysis patients.

Objective: Nutrition and growth are important outcome indicators in pediatric (Ped) hemodialysis (HD) patients. We hypothesized that there is a discrepancy among traditional measures of nutrition, and that adequate nutrition may not reliably predict growth.

Methods: We assessed longitudinal nutrition and growth parameters in 14 Ped HD patients over 1 year.
