Systematic review of neurological diseases and carbenoxolone: A double-edged sword?

In this systematic review, we aim to clarify common findings on carbenoxolone's effects on neurological conditions, including stroke, across studies and identify areas where knowledge remains incomplete. We searched several electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library, from their inception and finally included 60 studies in our review. This review reveals carbenoxolone's neuroprotective properties, such as gap junction inhibition, inhibiting the enzyme 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (HSD) type I, inducing heat shock proteins, and inhibiting amyloid β42 aggregation.

The Relationship Between the Percent Coefficient of Variation of Sensor Glucose Levels and the Risk of Severe Hypoglycemia or Non-Severe Hypoglycemia in Patients With Type 1 Diabetes: Post Hoc Analysis of the ISCHIA Study.

Materials And Methods: The Effect of Intermittent-Scanning Continuous Glucose Monitoring to Glycemic Control Including Hypoglycemia and Quality of Life of Patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (ISCHIA) study was a crossover, randomized, controlled trial for hypoglycemia prevention in patients with T1D using multiple daily injections (MDIs). Blinded continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data of 93 patients obtained during the Control period (84 days) were used for the post hoc analysis.

A short review: the biological activity of vitamin D and its decomposition products.

A vitamin D metabolite 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D exhibits numerous hormonal actions to various tissues and cells such as induction of calcium ion absorption, bone metabolism, activation of innate immune system. Because hormonal actions of 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D are too complex, it is difficult to better understand overall views of intermolecular networks on the cell activation by 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D. In this review we concisely outline the most fundamental molecular mechanisms for the cell activation by 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D based on the previous and recent studies.

Cost-effective analysis focused on hypoglycemia of intermittent-scanning continuous glucose monitoring in type 1 diabetes adults: a ISCHIA randomized clinical trial.

Background: This study aimed to compare the economic value of intermittent-scanning continuous glucose monitoring (isCGM) with self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) in adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Methods: Participants were placed on either an isCGM or SMBG arm for 84 days, in a randomized, crossover setup with a 28-day washout period. Clinically relevant hypoglycemia (<54 mg/dL) and severe hypoglycemia (SH) risks were calculated by analyzing the data from isCGM.

Laparoscopic and endoscopic co-operative surgery for a non-ampullary duodenal tumor after living-donor liver transplantation: a case report.

Superficial duodenal epithelial tumors were previously considered rare. Laparoscopic and endoscopic cooperative surgery for duodenal tumors (D-LECS) has been developed to achieve successful endoscopic treatment. Patients who have undergone living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT) may have severe abdominal adhesions, and immunosuppressive agents (IAs) may affect the degree of postoperative abdominal adhesions and wound healing, but their effects remain unclear.
