IPPASOS: The first digital forensic information system in Greece.

Objective: This article describes the first digital clinical information system tailored to support the operational needs of a forensic unit in Greece and to maintain its archives.

Method: The development of our system was initiated towards the end of 2018, as a close collaboration between the Medical School of the University of Crete and the Forensic Medicine Unit of the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, where forensic pathologists assumed active roles during the specification and testing of the system.

Results: The final prototype of the system was able to manage the life cycle of any forensic case by allowing users to create new records, assign them to forensic pathologists, upload reports, multimedia and any required files; mark the end of processing, issue certificates or appropriate legal documents, produce reports and generate statistics.

Low-carbohydrate diets adversely impact the skin of a mouse model of photoaging exposed to ultraviolet B radiation.

The study results regarding the effects of low-carbohydrate (LC) diets remain controversial; hence further research is required to assess their safety. Here, we examined whether LC diets cause skin damage in C57BL/6J mice. Six-week-old female mice ( = 20) were fed an LC (protein/fat/carbohydrate energy ratio = 35:45:20) or control diet for eight weeks, after which their backs were shaved, and a subset of the mice were exposed to ultraviolet B radiation thrice per week.

A simulational study of the indirect-geometry neutron spectrometer BIFROST at the European Spallation Source, from neutron source position to detector position.

The European Spallation Source (ESS) is intended to become the most powerful spallation neutron source in the world and the flagship of neutron science in upcoming decades. The exceptionally high neutron flux will provide unique opportunities for scientific experiments but also set high requirements for the detectors. One of the most challenging aspects is the rate capability and in particular the peak instantaneous rate capability, the number of neutrons hitting the detector per channel or cm at the peak of the neutron pulse.

Low-Carbohydrate Diet Inhibits Different Advanced Glycation End Products in Kidney Depending on Lipid Composition but Causes Adverse Morphological Changes in a Non-Obese Model Mice.

Low carbohydrate diets (LC diets) have been noted for adverse health effects. In addition, the effect of lipid composition on an LC diet is unclear. In this study, we used an LC diet containing two different lipids, lard (LC group) and medium-chain triglyceride oil (MCT-LC group), to examine the effect of an LC diet in non-obese mice.

Genetic history of the population of Crete.

The medieval history of several populations often suffers from scarcity of contemporary records resulting in contradictory and sometimes biased interpretations by historians. This is the situation with the population of the island of Crete, which remained relatively undisturbed until the Middle Ages when multiple wars, invasions, and occupations by foreigners took place. Historians have considered the effects of the occupation of Crete by the Arabs (in the 9th and 10th centuries C.
