Draft Genome Sequences of Six Strains Isolated from the Rhizosphere of Wheat Grown in Cadmium-Contaminated Soil.

This study presents high-quality draft genome assemblies of six bacterial strains isolated from the roots of wheat grown in soil contaminated with cadmium. The results of this study will help to elucidate at the molecular level how heavy metals affect interactions between beneficial rhizobacteria and crop plants.

Phototoxicity of anthracene and pyrene to glochidia of the freshwater mussel Utterbackia imbecillis.

The acute toxicity of photoactivated anthracene and pyrene to the glochidial larvae of the paper pondshell (Utterbackia imbecillis) was characterized in the laboratory using two sets of experiments. Acute toxicity tests designed to determine the overall sensitivity of glochidia to anthracene and pyrene were conducted under simulated sunlight (ultraviolet [UV]-A = 70+/-0.5 microW/cm2 [mean +/- standard deviation]).

Behavioral and neurochemical effects of continuous infusion of cocaine in rats.

The ability of continuous intravenous infusion of cocaine (60 mg/kg per day for 11 or 12 days; by osmotic minipump) to alter responses to acute injection of cocaine (20 mg/kg, i.p.; given 24 hr after termination of the infusion by minipump) was tested in conscious, tethered Sprague-Dawley rats.

On understanding homicide.

There are many faces of homicide, and there are no simple preventive cures. There is scarce comfort in knowing the homicide is, in fact, rare (there being roughly 60 cases per year in Victoria), or that a person is several times more likely to die by his or her own hand than that of someone else. Our current research suggests that there are some consistent patterns in the form that homicide takes.
