Many autistic adults experience co-occurring mental health problems, which have a negative effect on their well-being and result in increased use of mental health services. To improve mental healthcare for autistic adults, a better understanding is needed of what type of support they use in real life. Clinical guidelines recommend three kinds of mental health interventions: therapy, counseling, and medication.

Anger regulation is a challenge for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). We investigated if attention-based cognitive behavioral treatment, based on mindfulness cognitive therapy (MBCT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), reduces aggressive behavior and improves anger coping in school-aged autistic children (n = 51). Autism is a condition that is characterised by social communication difficulties and restrictive and repetitive behaviours or interests. Autism can present in many different ways and various interventions are available. Some interventions are conventional, and they are recommended to be used for children with autism (guideline therapies) or for other disorders such as anxiety or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (mainstream therapies or medication), while others are less conventional (other therapies or medication, they are discouraged, unknown or alternative).

  • A study examined antibiotic use in hospitalized patients with COPD exacerbations caused by influenza or RS virus, finding that 59% received antibiotics upon admission.
  • The results indicate that many antibiotic prescriptions were unnecessary, suggesting that a reduction of about 34% is possible, and that future guidelines should better address antibiotic use in these cases.

Purpose: Retinal oximetry measures oxygen saturation in retinal vessels. With the introduction of a mobile handheld prototype oximeter, this technique will become available for a broader patient population including bedridden patients and newborn babies. The objective is to determine the sensitivity of this handheld oximeter in room air and during isocapnic hyperoxia.
