This paper contributes to the field by addressing the critical issue of enhancing the spatial and temporal resolution of health data. Although Bayesian methods are frequently employed to address this challenge in various disciplines, the application of Bayesian spatio-temporal models to burden of disease (BOD) studies remains limited. Our novelty lies in the exploration of two existing Bayesian models that we show to be applicable to a wide range of BOD data, including mortality and prevalence, thereby providing evidence to support the adoption of Bayesian modeling in full BOD studies in the future.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov-2) has had a tremendous impact on humanity. Prevention of transmission by disinfection of surfaces and aerosols through a chemical-free method is highly desirable. Ultraviolet C (UVC) light is uniquely positioned to achieve inactivation of pathogens.

Mosquito-borne disease is a significant public health issue and within Australia Ross River virus (RRV) is the most reported. This study combines a mechanistic model of mosquito development for two mosquito vectors; and with climate projections from three climate models for two Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs), to examine the possible effects of climate change and sea-level rise on a temperate tidal saltmarsh habitat in Perth, Western Australia. The projections were run under no accretion and accretion scenarios using a known mosquito habitat as a case study.

Rationale: Pulmonary surfactant is vital for lung homeostasis as it reduces surface tension to prevent alveolar collapse and provides essential immune-regulatory and antipathogenic functions. Previous studies demonstrated dysregulation of some individual surfactant components in COPD. We investigated relationships between COPD disease measures and dysregulation of surfactant components to gain new insights into potential disease mechanisms.
