Article Synopsis
  • Individuals with Lynch syndrome have a high risk of colorectal cancer, and a study showed that taking aspirin can reduce this risk by 60% if adhered to for 2 years or more.
  • A survey conducted from 2020 to 2022 revealed that only 34.8% of participants were regularly taking aspirin or NSAIDs for cancer prevention, with an even lower percentage (25.7%) specifically using it for Lynch syndrome prevention.
  • The study found that perceptions of the risks and benefits of taking aspirin were more influential on whether individuals chose to use it for prevention than demographic factors or knowledge about the disease.*

Background: Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) overexpression (HER2+) is defined by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH) as IHC3+ or IHC2+/ISH+. Response differences to neoadjuvant anti-HER2 therapy (NT) in IHC3+ versus IHC2+/ISH+ breast cancer patients are poorly characterized. We explored whether pathologic complete response (pCR) varies by HER2 IHC status.

Article Synopsis
  • Human genetic studies reveal new insights into the biological processes of ovarian aging through rare protein-coding variants in a large study of women.
  • The genes identified (e.g., SAMHD1 and ZNF518A) show stronger effects on reproductive lifespan and cancer risk compared to common variants, with some variants linked to earlier menopause.
  • The research suggests a connection between genetic factors influencing ovarian aging and an increased incidence of de novo mutations, highlighting the importance of DNA damage response in fertility.
