Assessing Wildfire Impact on Diffusive Flux of Parent and Alkylated PAHs: A Pilot Study of Soil-Air Chemical Movement before, during, and after Wildfires.

The global wildfire risk is predicted to rise due to contributing factors of historical fire management strategies and increases in extreme weather conditions. Thus, there is a need to better understand contaminant movement and human exposure to wildfire smoke. Vapor-phase polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are elevated during wildfires, but little is known about how these chemicals move during and after wildfire events for exposure risk assessment.

Enhancing trauma-informed care for older veterans: clinician perspectives on trauma practices and curricular needs.

Trauma-informed care is mandated in long-term care settings in the United States; however, little is known about clinicians' perspectives on trauma-informed care educational needs. To address this gap, we gathered responses to closed- and open-ended questions from two samples who work with older adults: (1) hospice and palliative care staff ( = 279) completing a recurring bi-annual survey, and (2) clinicians from diverse settings ( = 242) responding to live polling during a Veterans Affairs (VA) national webinar. Results of qualitative and quantitative analysis revealed that both routinely screened for trauma history or posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Meaning and Joy at Work and Nurse Self-Care Practices: An Exploratory Study.

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement Framework for Improving Joy at Work includes self-care as a strategy to support happy, healthy, and productive people; however, this relationship has not previously been empirically demonstrated. The purpose of this study was to describe self-care practices and levels of meaning and joy in work (MJW) in a sample of registered nurses and to explore the relationship between self-care and MJW. Registered nurses (n = 122) from a regional health system completed a survey during a nursing recognition event.

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in Older Veterans admitted to VA Community Living Centers: Prevalence and Risk Correlates.

Objectives: To examine prevalence and risk correlates for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) occurring during or after admission to a Veterans Administration (VA) skilled nursing facility.

Design: Retrospective cohort analysis of electronic health record information extracted from the VA Corporate Data Warehouse.

Setting: United States VA skilled nursing facility.
