The duration of anticoagulation treatment for venous thromboembolism (VTE) depends on whether the event was provoked or unprovoked. Major surgery or trauma are well-established major provoking factors associated with a low risk of recurrence, but the magnitude of risk with VTE after minor surgery or trauma is uncertain. To compare the rate of recurrence in patients with VTE provoked by minor surgery or trauma with that in patients with VTE provoked by major surgery or trauma.

This is a single-centre, retrospective review of adult patients (18 years and over) who were referred to a tertiary hospital for further investigation of isolated neutropenia between June 2023 and February 2024. Patient demographics, co-morbidities, ethnicity, medications, laboratory results and final diagnosis were obtained from electronic database and chart reviews.

Background: Cushing's syndrome (CS) encompasses various causes of hypercortisolism including adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secreting pituitary adenoma with or without bilateral adrenal hyperplasia, an adrenal adenoma or carcinoma, ectopic ACTH or corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH) secretion by a neoplasm or exogenous corticosteroid therapy. The diagnosis of CS in pregnancy presents a challenge due to overlapping clinical features of pregnancy (weight gain, striae, acne). If untreated, CS in pregnancy is associated with increased risk of maternal and fetal complications.

The CARAVAGGIO trial demonstrated noninferiority of apixaban to dalteparin for treatment of cancer-associated VTE without an increased risk of major bleeding. We compared the early time course of VTE recurrence and major bleeding events of apixaban compared with dalteparin at 7, 30, and 90 days of treatment in patients with cancer-associated VTE.

Both forms, however, result in unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia which can lead to kernicterus and potentially death. Phenobarbitone can be used as an enzyme inducer in Type II to facilitate a reduction in total serum bilirubin.
