Cardiac fibroblast BAG3 regulates TGFBR2 signaling and fibrosis in dilated cardiomyopathy.

Loss of Bcl2-associated athanogene 3 (BAG3) is associated with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). BAG3 regulates sarcomere protein turnover in cardiomyocytes; however, the function of BAG3 in other cardiac cell types is understudied. In this study, we used an isogenic pair of BAG3-knockout and wild-type human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) to interrogate the role of BAG3 in hiPSC-derived cardiac fibroblasts (CFs).

Host response to cholestyramine can be mediated by the gut microbiota.

The gut microbiota has been implicated as a major factor contributing to metabolic diseases and the response to drugs used for the treatment of such diseases. In this study, we tested the effect of cholestyramine, a bile acid sequestrant that reduces blood cholesterol, on the murine gut microbiota and metabolism. We also explored the hypothesis that some effects of this drug on systemic metabolism can be attributed to alterations in the gut microbiota.

Identification of progressive pulmonary fibrosis: consensus findings from a modified Delphi study.

Background: We sought consensus among practising respiratory physicians on the prediction, identification and monitoring of progression in patients with fibrosing interstitial lung disease (ILD) using a modified Delphi process.

Methods: Following a literature review, statements on the prediction, identification and monitoring of progression of ILD were developed by a panel of physicians with specialist expertise. Practising respiratory physicians were sent a survey asking them to indicate their level of agreement with these statements on a binary scale or 7-point Likert scale (- 3 to 3), or to select answers from a list.

Reported outcomes following cytoreductive surgery for colorectal peritoneal metastases: A systematic review to inform evidence-based practice and international consensus.

Aim: Cytoreductive surgery provides a chance for long-term survival and cure in selected patients with colorectal peritoneal metastases. As clinical and academic interest in this field increases, heterogeneity in outcome reporting hinders the valid and meaningful synthesis of data into high-quality meta-analyses. The aim of this systemic review was to investigate variability in outcome reporting following cytoreductive surgery with or without intraperitoneal chemotherapy for colorectal peritoneal metastases.

COVID-19 reinfection in pregnancy: assessment of Severity and pregnancy outcomes in England.

Background: Disease severity and pregnancy outcomes following SARS-CoV-2 reinfections in pregnancy are not well understood.

Methods: We linked women aged 18 to 50 years testing positive in the community for COVID-19 between April 2021 and March 2022 to hospital, vaccine and maternal services databases. We compared hospital and intensive care unit (ICU) admission rates following infection and reinfection in pregnant and non-pregnant women, and low birthweight, prematurity and stillbirth in women infected and reinfected during pregnancy.
