Vitamin E (VE) is a lipophilic vitamin, and Evans and Bishop demonstrated the existence of a hitherto unrecognized dietary factor essential for normal reproduction in rat. During 100 years after the discovery, α-tocopherol (α-Toc) has been the representative species in VE homologues, and both naturally occurring and synthetically prepared α-Toc have been widely used and studied. Although it is indicated by a single-word VE, research on VE involves various chemical species.

Article Synopsis
  • Microsatellite instability (MSI) testing and immunohistochemistry (IHC) for MMR proteins are key methods used to assess DNA mismatch repair deficiency in gastric cancer and predict immune checkpoint inhibitor effectiveness.
  • A study analyzed 489 gastric cancer samples, finding a 99.2% concordance rate between MSI results and IHC results, with 11.5% showing loss of MMR proteins and 10.7% high-frequency MSI.
  • Despite the high concordance, four cases were identified where IHC indicated dMMR due to MLH1 loss but with stable microsatellites, suggesting IHC may be more effective in certain contexts for detecting dMMR.

Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is a novel biomedical tool used for cancer therapy. A device using nitrogen gas (N CAP) produced CAP that induced cell death through the production of reactive nitrogen species and an increase in intracellular calcium. In this study, we investigated the effect of N CAP-irradiation on cell membrane and mitochondrial function in human embryonic kidney cell line 293T.

We propose a remote method to estimate continuous blood pressure (BP) based on spatial information of a pulse-wave as a function of time. By setting regions of interest to cover a face in a mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive manner, RGB facial video is converted into a spatial pulse-wave signal. The spatial pulse-wave signal is converted into spatial signals of contours of each segmented pulse beat and relationships of each segmented pulse beat.

In molecular biology research, a vitamin E (VE) vehicle (VE dissolved in organic solvent) is often added to water media without a stabilizer. However, the detailed behavior of VE colloids in water media is unclear. In this study, we reveal that VE nanoemulsion readily forms in water-based media through the existing protocol.
