Adenoviral-mediated gene transfer for the treatment of experimental intrinsic malignant brain neoplasms holds promise. The role, however, of intracellular, adenoviral-mediated p53 expression to inhibit growth of experimental human intracranial malignant gliomas remains largely unexplored. Using the AdCMV.

Gene transfer techniques may provide efficient treatment for a variety of malignant neoplasms. A replication-deficient adenovirus (Ad) vector which carries the cDNA for wild-type p53 (AdCMV.p53) was tested for its in vitro and in vivo effects on the growth of murine melanoma cell line B16-G3.

We investigated the relationship between telomere length and various characteristics of tumor cells in 46 lung cancer specimens (40 primary lesions and six metastatic lesions). Three variant patterns of telomere length were observed in 16 cases (34.8%): reduction in 13 cases, elongation in two cases, and convergence in one case.

In the diagnosis of mycobacterial infection, more than 4-8 weeks is required to identify the species of mycobacterium responsible for an infection. Therefore, the development of a method for the rapid detection and identification of mycobacteria is necessary for selecting an optimal therapeutic plan early in the patient's course. For this purpose, we developed a method combining a nested polymerase chain reaction (nested PCR) procedure and a restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP) analysis of the dnaJ gene of mycobacteria, which codes for a heat shock protein.
