Review of cancer cell volatile organic compounds: their metabolism and evolution.

Cancer is ranked as the top cause of premature mortality. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are produced from catalytic peroxidation by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and have become a highly attractive non-invasive cancer screening approach. For future clinical applications, however, the correlation between cancer hallmarks and cancer-specific VOCs requires further study.

Central amygdala NPBWR1 neurons facilitate social novelty seeking and new social interactions.

The formation of new social interactions is vital for social animals, but the underlying neural mechanisms remain poorly understood. We identified CeA neurons, a population in central amygdala expressing neuropeptide B/W receptor-1 (NPBWR1), that play a critical role in these interactions. CeA neurons were activated during encounters with unfamiliar, but not with familiar, mice.

Risk Factors Associated With Lymph Node Metastasis and Recurrence in Surgical Cases of pT1 Colorectal Cancer.

Objective This study aims to investigate the risk factors for lymph node metastasis (LNM) and postoperative recurrence in patients undergoing surgery for pT1 colorectal cancer (pT1-CRC). Materials and methods We retrospectively analyzed 150 patients who underwent bowel resection with lymph node dissection for pT1-CRC at our department between September 2011 and December 2021. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to examine the effects of sex, depth of tumor invasion, venous invasion, lymphatic invasion, tumor budding (BD), and histological type on LNM and recurrence.

Clinical outcomes of modified left ventricular assist device driveline management.

Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are implanted in patients with heart failure to support cardiac circulation. However, no standardized methods have been established for LVAD driveline exit site management for the prevention of infections. Therefore, this study evaluated the efficacy of modified driveline management compared with that of conventional driveline management.

Double-balloon endoscopy for duodenal diverticulitis with calculus after intestinal reconstruction: A case report.

Small-bowel diverticulosis is relatively common, but there is no set treatment strategy for duodenal diverticulitis with stone impaction. A woman aged in her 70s presented with a chief complaint of abdominal pain, and she had been reconstructed by the Roux-en-Y method after total gastrectomy. We performed an enhanced computed tomography which revealed edematous wall thickening of the duodenum.
