[Determination of the viability of a patient's intestine by using laser doppler flowmetry during surgery].

Intraoperative determination of the viability of the intestine by means of laser Doppler flow measurement was conducted in 26 patients. The method proved to be highly effective, made it possible to judge most objectively the degree of changes in blood flow in various parts of the intestine in a short time and correct them subsequently during the operation, and considerably reduced the possibility of the development of postoperative complications due to inadequate appraisal of the degree of vascularization of the mobilized segments of the small and large intestine which are prepared for the formation of the anastomosis.

[Effect of the calcium antagonist nifangin on hemodynamics in patients with congestive heart failure].

Nifangin (nifedipine), manufactured by the Laakepharmos Co., Finland, was used in 75 patients with congestive heart failure due to ischemic heart disease and chronic obstructive bronchitis. The effect of a single 20 mg dose and a course of treatment (60 mg daily for 18 days) was assessed by monitoring with the help of echocardiography, venous occlusion plethysmography, laser Doppler flowmetry as well as external respiration and blood gases partial tension measurement.

Combined non-invasive diagnostics of deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities.

Application of a combined non-invasive diagnostic approach to screening examination of a high-risk group of patients made it possible to detect phlebothrombosis on 34 lower extremities in 31 patients with absent clinical manifestations of the disease. Combined use of Doppler ultrasound flowmetry and occlusive venous plethysmography increases the accuracy of the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities up to 96%.
