Machine Learning(s) in gaming disorder through the user-avatar bond: A step towards conceptual and methodological clarity.

In response to our study, the commentary by Infanti et al. (2024) raised critical points regarding (i) the conceptualization and utility of the user-avatar bond in addressing gaming disorder (GD) risk, and (ii) the optimization of supervised machine learning techniques applied to assess GD risk. To advance the scientific dialogue and progress in these areas, the present paper aims to: (i) enhance the clarity and understanding of the concepts of the avatar, the user-avatar bond, and the digital phenotype concerning gaming disorder (GD) within the broader field of behavioral addictions, and (ii) comparatively assess how the user-avatar bond (UAB) may predict GD risk, by both removing data augmentation before the data split and by implementing alternative data imbalance treatment approaches in programming.

Sustained Symptomatic Remission and Recovery and Their Loss Among Patients With Borderline Personality Disorder and Patients With Other Types of Personality Disorders: A 24-Year Prospective Follow-Up Study.

The first purpose of this study was to determine time to attainment of symptomatic remissions and recoveries of 2-12 years duration for those with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and patients with other personality disorders (OPDs); the second was to determine the stability of these outcomes. Two hundred ninety inpatients meeting both Revised Diagnostic Interview for Borderlines (DIB-R) and criteria for BPD and 72 patients with OPDs were assessed during their index admission using a series of semistructured interviews. The same instruments were readministered at 12 contiguous 2-year time periods.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is characterized by unstable self-image, conflictual interpersonal relationships, emotional dysregulation, and marked impulsivity. One form of impulsivity commonly seen in BPD is binge eating; however, little is known about this maladaptive behavior in the context of BPD. In the eating disorder (ED) literature, multiple theories suggest binge eating occurs as a result of heightened levels of negative affect.
