  • Etomidate is a widely used anesthetic for cardiac surgery, known for its good cardiovascular safety but its overall efficacy and safety compared to other anesthetics remain unclear.
  • This study performed a systematic review of randomized controlled trials to evaluate etomidate's impact on patient outcomes, focusing on factors like mortality rates and hemodynamic measurements in cardiac surgery patients.
  • The results showed that etomidate did not significantly change the 30-day mortality rates or other key clinical outcomes compared to other drugs, indicating it may be equally effective as alternative anesthetic options.

Background: Pain is prevalent and poorly managed in older adults. Although pain self-management strategies are helpful, adoption and access are limited; thus, technology provides an opportunity for intervention delivery. Mobile health (mHealth) is feasible to use in older adults; however, we have yet to understand the effect of mHealth pain self-management interventions on pain outcomes in older adults.

This study is innovative, as it specifically focuses on criminal justice contexts that influence the MOUD continuum of care from the perspective of clinicians working within the criminal justice system.

Hemolysis is associated with many pathologies, including trauma, sepsis, hemorrhagic stroke, malaria, and genetic disorders such as sickle cell disease (SCD). When hemolysis occurs, free-heme drives vascular inflammation, resulting in oxidative tissue damage and cardiometabolic complications. A better understanding of heme clearance and detoxification is essential to preventing sustained tissue damage.
