Down syndrome (DS) is a risk factor for severe food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES), with DS patients tending to have multiple-food FPIES. This is the first case where a DS infant with a history of severe chronic FPIES to milk and soy could effectively be introduced with some untested high-risk foods through hospital-based oral food challenges (OFCs). The infant is a 20-month-old girl with DS, who was diagnosed with milk- and soy-induced FPIES.

Nonequilibrium Green's function theory and related methods are widely used to describe transport phenomena in many-body systems, but they often require a costly inversion of a large matrix. We show here that the shift-invert Lanczos method can dramatically reduce the computational effort. We apply the method to two test problems, namely a simple model Hamiltonian and to a more realistic Hamiltonian for nuclear fission.

In cases of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis that does not respond to topical therapy, temporary systemic administration of molecular targeted drugs (biological agents or oral Janus kinase[JAK]inhibitors) may be necessary. However, topical therapy forms the basis of the treatment for atopic dermatitis, and if topical therapy is appropriately established with long-term remission achieved, the use of molecular targeted drugs can be discontinued. In these two cases of severe adolescent atopic dermatitis, successful initiation of remission was achieved through hospitalization, disease education, skincare guidance, and the combined use of appropriate topical therapy and short-term oral JAK inhibitors during the remission induction phase.

Fertility control has traditionally been applied in zoos to control captive populations, and reversible contraception is important. However, contraceptive methods for male bears have not been reported. We aimed to establish a reversible contraceptive for male brown bears by investigating the effects of a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) vaccine (Improvac®) that was developed for the immune castration of pigs.

Coccolithophores are marine calcifying phytoplankton important to the carbon cycle and a model organism for studying diversity. Here, we present CASCADE (Coccolithophore Abundance, Size, Carbon And Distribution Estimates), a new global dataset for 139 extant coccolithophore taxonomic units. CASCADE includes a trait database (size and cellular organic and inorganic carbon contents) and taxonomic-unit-specific global spatiotemporal distributions (Latitude/Longitude/Depth/Month/Year) of coccolithophore abundance and organic and inorganic carbon stocks.
