[How I manage polycythemia].

Polycythemia is suspected when hemoglobin and/or hematocrit levels exceed established norms based on gender and age. This biological anomaly can arise from a myeloproliferative neoplasm known as polycythemia vera, or be secondary to excess erythropoietin (EPO) or decreased in plasma volume. Faced with polycythemia, the search for JAK2 mutations and measurement of serum EPO levels can guide toward the etiology.

Dual-tracer PET/CT scan after injection of combined [ F]NaF and [ F]FDG outperforms MRI in the detection of myeloma lesions.

The detection rates of whole-body combined [ F]NaF/[ F]FDG positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography (PET/CT), CT alone, whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (WB-MRI), and X-ray were prospectively studied in patients with treatment-requiring plasma cell disorders The detection rates of imaging techniques were compared, and focal lesions were classified according to their anatomic location. Twenty-six out of 30 initially included patients were assessable. The number of focal lesions detected in newly diagnosed patients (n = 13) and in relapsed patients (n = 13) were 296 and 234, respectively.

[Acute myocardial infarction due to polycythemia vera].

We report the clinical case of a patient presenting with an acute myocardial infarction with ST- segment elevation. The patient is affected by polycythemia vera for many years and doesn't have any other cardiovascular risk factors. The frequency of thrombotic events in polycythemia vera (and more particularly myocardial infarction), their predictive factors, pathophysiology and treatment will be discussed.

Yellow nail syndrome after allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation in two patients with multiple myeloma.

Objective And Importance: Yellow nail syndrome (YNS) is a rare disorder of unknown aetiology characterized by the triad of yellow nails, lymphoedema and respiratory manifestations. About 200 cases have been reported, but a lot of patients probably elude proper diagnosis because of both variability of symptoms and ignorance of this syndrome by many physicians. The pathogenesis remains unclear, and could involve functional lymphatic abnormalities, microvasculopathy or lymphocyte deficiency, but none of these hypotheses seems fully satisfactory.
