Europium Lithosilicates LiEuSiN and LiEuSiO-Crystal Structures and Luminescence.

With LiEuSiN, the end member of the solid-solution series set up by substituting the divalent cation in the well-known host materials LiCaSiN and LiSrSiN with Eu(II) could be synthesized and described by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction and single-grain luminescence spectroscopy. The new compound crystallizes isotypically to LiCaSiN and LiSrSiN in cubic space group 3̅ (no. 205) with a lattice parameter of = 10.

Polymorphism and polymorph-dependent luminescence properties of the first lithium oxonitridolithosilicate LiSiNO:Eu.

Building on studies of monoclinic LiSiNO, a polymorph, β-LiSiNO, with a previously unknown structure type was synthesized. The β-phase crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group (no. 61) with lattice parameters of = 18.

The compound LiSiNO:Eu was synthesized in high temperature solid-state reactions in weld shut tantalum ampules and the crystal structure of LiSiNO has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group 2/ (no. 15) with the lattice parameters = 1049.
