Pinloc or Hansson pins: a multicenter, randomized controlled study of 439 patients treated for femoral neck fractures.

Objectives: To compare the recently developed Hansson Pinloc system, which features 3 cylindrical parallel pins with hooks connected through a fixed-angle interlocking plate, with the Hansson Pin System (2 hook pins) for the treatment of femoral neck fractures.

Design: One hundred fourteen patients with displaced femoral neck fractures and 325 patients with nondisplaced fractures from 9 orthopaedic centers were randomized to either Hansson Pinloc system or Hansson Pin System and followed for 2 years or until death. Age at inclusion was 50 years or older.

A phase I prospective, non-randomized trial of autologous dendritic cell-based cryoimmunotherapy in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.

Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) is an immunologically cold disease with dismal outcomes. Cryoablation destroys cancer tissue, releases tumor-associated antigens and creates a pro-inflammatory microenvironment, while dendritic cells (DCs) activate immune responses through processing of antigens. Immunotherapy combinations could enhance the anti-tumor efficacy.

GM-CSF, Flt3-L and IL-4 affect viability and function of conventional dendritic cell types 1 and 2.

Conventional type 1 dendritic cells (cDC1) and conventional type 2 dendritic cells (cDC2) have attracted increasing attention as alternatives to monocyte-derived dendritic cells (moDCs) in cancer immunotherapy. Use of cDCs for therapy has been hindered by their low numbers in peripheral blood. In the present study, we found that extensive spontaneous apoptosis and cDC death in culture within 24hrs represent an additional challenge.

Oral Premalignant and Malignant Lesions in Fanconi Anemia Patients.

Objective: There is a lack of data supporting cancer surveillance in pediatric Fanconi Anemia patients. We sought to describe the rates of upper aerodigestive lesions and malignancy in this population to augment current management guidelines.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study of patients with Fanconi Anemia from a quaternary referral center between 2007-2021 was completed for head and neck cancer risk.

Attitudes Among General Surgery Program Directors and Faculty Toward Openly Nonheterosexual Applicants.

Objective: Historically, nonheterosexual physicians have experienced bias in medical training. While resident-focused studies have been conducted in general surgery, the views of program directors and faculty are less evident. In this study, we surveyed program directors and faculty in general surgery to assess their attitudes toward openly nonheterosexual residency applicants.
