Background: Pathobiology of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is associated with changes among respiratory epithelium structure and function. Increased levels of PM from urban particulate matter (UPM) are correlated with enlarged rate of asthma and COPD morbidity as well as acute disease exacerbation. It has been suggested that pre-existing pulmonary obstructive diseases predispose epithelium for different biological response than in healthy airways.

Asthma underdiagnosis and overdiagnosis remain significant problems for healthcare systems worldwide and indicate considerable pain points with current guidelines and diagnostic methods; therefore, new, targeted approaches seem crucial. This study introduces a novel spirometry-based approach using digital tools for objective asthma diagnosis support. This was a single-centre (Warsaw Medical University, Poland) prospective cohort study.

The role of eosinophilic inflammation in the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) remains ambiguous and likely differs from its role in asthma. The molecular processes underlying the differences between eosinophils from asthma and COPD have not been sufficiently studied. The objective of this study was to compare the transcriptomic profiles of blood eosinophils in COPD and asthma.

We consider two different time fractional telegrapher's equations under stochastic resetting. Using the integral decomposition method, we found the probability density functions and the mean squared displacements. In the long-time limit, the system approaches non-equilibrium stationary states, while the mean squared displacement saturates due to the resetting mechanism.

The strain LMG 1385 was used for the bioconversion of crude glycerol to dihydroxyacetone. The suitability of fed-batch cultures for the production of dihydroxyacetone was determined, and the influence of the pH of the culture medium and the initial concentration of glycerol on maximizing the concentration of dihydroxyacetone and on the yield and speed of obtaining dihydroxyacetone by bioconversion was examined. The feeding strategy of the substrate (crude glycerol) during the process was based on measuring the dissolved oxygen tension of the culture medium.
