Gender differences in spine surgery for degenerative lumbar disease: prospective cohort study.

Objective: Despite efforts toward achieving gender-based equality in clinical trial enrollment, females are frequently underrepresented and gender-specific data analysis is lacking. Identifying and addressing gender bias in medical decision-making and outcome reporting may facilitate more equitable healthcare delivery. This study aimed to determine if gender differences exist in the clinical evaluation and surgical management of patients with degenerative lumbar conditions.

Retrospective analysis of medium-term outcomes following anterior lumbar interbody fusion surgery performed in a tertiary spinal surgical centre.

Introduction: Anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) can treat spondylolisthesis, degenerative disc disease and pseudoarthrosis. This approach facilitates complete discectomy, disc space distraction, indirect decompression of neural foramina and placement of large interbody devices. Several intra- and postoperative complications can be attributed to the anterior approach: vascular/visceral injury, hypogastric plexus injury and urogenital consequences.

Bone scintigraphy with SPECT/CT in paediatric patients with neck and back pain in comparison with other imaging modalities: the experience of a tertiary paediatric referral centre.

Objective: Retrospective review of the additional clinical value provided by single photon emission computed tomography-computed tomography (SPECT/CT) in children and adolescents with back pain.

Methods: A total of 207 consecutive paediatric patients (94 males, 113 females, age range 5-17 years, median age 14 years) were reviewed after referral to the spinal surgery clinic of a paediatric teaching hospital between November 2009 and February 2021. All patients had either only whole spine X-rays or whole spine x-rays and MRI, along with bone scan with planar whole-body images and SPECT/CT (with spot views of painful area).

Delayed Presentation and Treatment of Sagittal Synostosis: A Case Report.

Sagittal suture synostosis (SSS), caused by premature closure of the sagittal suture of the skull, is usually diagnosed and treated in the first few months of life; delayed diagnosis can be associated with abnormalities in brain development, including raised intracranial pressure (ICP) and neurocognitive development impairments. It can also affect an individual's self-perception and self-esteem. We present a unique case of late presentation and treatment of non-syndromic sagittal synostosis in a 10-year-old.

A Retrospective Comparative Study of Long-Term Outcomes Following Cervical Total Disc Replacement Versus Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion.

Introduction The traditional treatment for patients with radiculopathy and myelopathy caused by degenerative disc disease was anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). However, a documented complication of ACDF is adjacent segment degeneration (ASD). An alternative that was developed was total disc replacement (TDR).
