Head and neck free flap reconstruction under the COVID-19 pandemic.

High perioperative mortality and complication rates during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have been reported. In head and neck reconstruction, not only is patient safety important, but the prevention of infection introduced by the surgical team is also important because the procedure is performed in close proximity to the upper respiratory tract. In addition, recent studies have reported an increased risk for thrombus formation after infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) or COVID-19 vaccination, which is problematic for microsurgical reconstruction procedures.

Evaluation of the drug-drug interactions management system for appropriate use of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir: a retrospective observational study.

Purpose: While nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (NMV-r) has been positioned as a first-line treatment for mild to moderate COVID-19, it has multiple and significant drug-drug interactions (DDIs). The use of NMV-r in Japan has been limited compared to the United States. This study aimed to describe the distribution of DDIs with NMV-r and their management in patients with COVID-19 under the control of a management system for the appropriate use of NMV-r.

Epstein-Barr virus-positive mucocutaneous ulcer resulting in severe methotrexate intoxication: a case report.

Background: Epstein-Barr virus-positive mucocutaneous ulcer is one of the mature B-cell lymphoproliferative diseases occurring in patients with immune dysfunction including those with immunosuppressive treatment such as methotrexate.

Case Presentation: A Japanese elderly man in his 80s with rheumatoid arthritis on methotrexate was admitted to our hospital complaining persistent pharyngeal pain. Laboratory tests revealed severe pancytopenia, elevated C-reactive protein, and increased creatinine levels.

Evaluation of plasma atrial natriuretic peptide concentration in healthy bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncates).

There are currently no standard methods for diagnosing cardiac diseases in dolphins. These diseases may consequently be overlooked and go undiagnosed. The presence and severity of cardiac diseases in humans can be determined using blood tests.
