Emerging research suggests virtual engagement can increase accessibility for patients managing long-term health conditions and those living in larger geographic areas, but it can also be challenging to establish relationships and maintain engagement over time. Little is known about virtual engagement lasting more than two years, nor about the specific contributions of patients to virtual engagement projects.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variation and neurocognitive impairment in people with HIV (PWH), using MutPred scores to predict variant pathogenicity.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 744 PWH in the CHARTER study, finding that those with potentially harmful mtDNA variants were less likely to experience motor impairment.
  • The results suggest that these deleterious mtDNA variants may actually protect against motor function decline, indicating complex and not yet understood mechanisms at play.

Recent studies suggest that community violence exposure (CVE) may have a distinct impact on youth mental health.

Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (D9-THC) is the driving cannabinoid within cannabis that produces its psychoactive effects. However, the plant itself contains over 400 individual chemicals, many with unique pharmacological properties. Further complicating the cannabis market, chemical modifications have been identified to convert naturally derived cannabinoids to alternative cannabinoids and the collection of synthetic cannabinoids, manmade chemicals designed to act at cannabinoid receptors, continues to grow.
