Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at dogs with liver tumors to see if their blood clotting times (PT and aPTT) were longer than normal before surgery.
  • Out of 359 dogs, 74 had longer PT or aPTT, and 20 had both, but only dogs with a type of tumor called hemangiosarcoma showed both problems together.
  • The results suggest that testing for these blood clotting times isn't very helpful for most liver tumor dogs, unless there's a strong chance they have hemangiosarcoma.

It is becoming increasingly clear that not only unicellular, photoautotrophic eukaryotes, plants, and fungi, but also invertebrates are capable of synthesizing ω3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA) de novo. However, the distribution of this anabolic capacity among different invertebrate groups and its implementation at the gene and protein level are often still unknown. This study investigated the PUFA pathways in common soil fauna, i.

Article Synopsis
  • Modified balloon angioplasty (MB) and intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) are treatments for in-stent restenosis (ISR), but IVL is currently used off-label in this scenario.
  • A study involving 117 patients (36 treated with IVL and 81 with MB) found that IVL resulted in significantly lower residual stenosis compared to MB (2.8% vs. 21.0%).
  • Despite the differences in stenosis rates, long-term follow-up showed no significant differences in cardiac death, acute myocardial infarction, or target lesion revascularization between the two treatment groups.
