Ozonated Monolayer Graphene for Extended Performance and Durability in Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles.

In the landscape of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), there is a strong need for durable, low hydrogen crossover membranes that retain high current output and proton conductivity during operation. This study presents the use of UV-Ozone induced defects in graphene to eliminate the proton conductivity penalty commonly associated with traditional crossover mitigation strategies. We report a defect engineered graphene material that demonstrates an increase in hydrogen/proton selectivity of 27%, a decrease in H crossover of 24%, with limited to no impact on current output.

Hypersplenism Affects Growth and Haematology in HbSS: Observations from the Jamaican Birth Cohort.

In 296 patients with homozygous sickle cell disease (HbSS) detected during the screening of 100,000 deliveries between 1973-1981, chronic hypersplenism defined as a spleen measuring ≥4 cm below the costal margin with evidence of prolonged red cell sequestration occurred in 30 (10.1%) subjects, 23 resolved by splenectomy and 7 resolved spontaneously. Neighbourhood socioeconomic conditions and emergency admissions for ambulatory care sensitive conditions in children: a longitudinal ecological analysis in England, 2012-2017.

Background: Ambulatory care sensitive conditions (ACSCs) are those for which hospital admission could be prevented by interventions in primary care. Children living in socioeconomic disadvantage have higher rates of emergency admissions for ACSCs than their more affluent counterparts. Emergency admissions for ACSCs have been increasing, but few studies have assessed how changing socioeconomic conditions (SECs) have impacted this.
