Enhancing trauma-informed care for older veterans: clinician perspectives on trauma practices and curricular needs.

Trauma-informed care is mandated in long-term care settings in the United States; however, little is known about clinicians' perspectives on trauma-informed care educational needs. To address this gap, we gathered responses to closed- and open-ended questions from two samples who work with older adults: (1) hospice and palliative care staff ( = 279) completing a recurring bi-annual survey, and (2) clinicians from diverse settings ( = 242) responding to live polling during a Veterans Affairs (VA) national webinar. Results of qualitative and quantitative analysis revealed that both routinely screened for trauma history or posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Effect of phenylbutazone administration on the enteroinsular axis in horses with insulin dysregulation.

Background: Phenylbutazone is prescribed for laminitis-associated pain and decreases glucose and insulin responses to an oral glucose test (OGT) in horses with insulin dysregulation (ID).

Hypothesis/objectives: Investigate the effect of phenylbutazone administration on the enteroinsular axis in horses.

Animals: Sixteen horses, including 7 with ID.

Crohn's disease management: translating STRIDE-II for UK clinical practice.

Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) characterised by endoscopic inflammation, progressive bowel damage and gastrointestinal lesions. Although treatment strategies for CD have traditionally focused on a stepwise pharmacological approach to achieve clinical remission or symptom resolution, these treatment goals correlate poorly with disease activity. Thus, achieving full clinical remission and full endoscopic healing alone may be insufficient, as patients may remain at risk of inflammatory complications.

Influence of reef habitat on coral microbial associations.

Corals have complex symbiotic associations that can be influenced by the environment. We compare symbiotic dinoflagellate (family: Symbiodiniaceae) associations and the microbiome of five scleractinian coral species from three different reef habitats in Palau, Micronesia. Although pH and temperature corresponded with specific host-Symbiodiniaceae associations common to the nearshore and offshore habitats, bacterial community dissimilarity analyses indicated minimal influence of these factors on microbial community membership for the corals Coelastrea aspera, Psammocora digitata, and Pachyseris rugosa.

Patient Experiences With Hospitalization Due to Diabetes in Alberta, Canada: A Cohort Study Using Survey and Administrative Data.

Objectives: Individuals living with diabetes are often hospitalized. Despite this, little is known about their experiences with hospital care. In this study we examined the comprehensive experiences of patients hospitalized due to diabetes in Alberta, Canada, and compared them with those of patients hospitalized for other chronic conditions.
