Introduction: Co-infection of malaria and intestinal parasitosis is the concomitant presence of two parasite species in a single human host; it is more frequent in children in many parts of the world. The objective of this study was to describe the co-infection of malaria and intestinal parasitosis in children in the health district of Kloto.
Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study conducted over a period of four (04) months, from February 8 to May 10, in rural health centers with laboratory facilities in the Kloto sanitary district.
Introduction: vaso-occlusive crisis (VOC) is the most common manifestation of sickle cell disease and the leading cause of hospitalization among affected children. The purpose of this study is to describe the clinical features of severe VOCs, to determine the etiologies of infectious syndromes that accompany them and to describe their management.
Methods: we conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study of 137 adult patients with sickle cell disease hospitalised for severe VOC in the Paediatric Department of the Sylvanus Olympio University Hospital from 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2011.
Background: Artemether-lumefantrine (AL) and dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine (DP) are the currently recommended first- and second-line therapies for uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum infections in Togo. This study assessed the efficacy of these combinations, the proportion of Day3-positive patients (D3 +), the proportion of molecular markers associated with P. falciparum resistance to anti-malarial drugs, and the variable performance of HRP2-based malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs).
