Introduction: Physicians are expected to be competent in the management of cardiovascular emergencies. Despite the demand, there is a lack of research regarding how to better provide training for medical students to address cardiovascular emergencies. The authors of this project hypothesize that medical students participating in the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructors (ACLS-I) program will improve their emergency management and clinical teaching competencies and confidence.

New therapeutics are necessary for preventing Plasmodium vivax malaria due to easy transmissibility and dormancy in the liver that increases the clinical burden due to recurrent relapse. In this manuscript we characterize 12 Pv Apical Membrane Antigen 1 (PvAMA1) specific human monoclonal antibodies from Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells of a Pv-exposed individual. PvAMA1 is essential for sporozoite and merozoite invasion, making it a unique therapeutic target.

The P300 event-related potential (ERP) is widely investigated in cognitive neuroscience, including related to aging, with smaller amplitudes and delayed latency consistently reported in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Given that AD-related neurological changes begin years before symptom onset, ERPs in asymptomatic elders with AD risk may characterize early changes. ERPs are seldom studied in this population.

Alexithymia is a multi-dimensional personality trait involving difficulty identifying feelings, difficulty describing feelings, and an externally oriented thinking style. Poor fantasy life is debated as another facet. For over 50 years, the alexithymia literature has examined how alexithymia-related disturbances in perceiving and expressing feelings contribute to mental and physical disorders.

In this chapter, we review the cross-sectional evidence in healthy human subjects for physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness to offer neuroprotection and moderate cognitive decline in older age. The role of exercise training on cognition in healthy older adults and those diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is also discussed, including the evidence from neuroimaging studies that document changes to brain structure and function after a period of exercise training and improved fitness. Finally, in reference to animal models, the potential neurophysiological mechanisms for physical activity and exercise to impact human brain health are highlighted.
