Synaptic basis of feature selectivity in hippocampal neurons.

A central question in neuroscience is how synaptic plasticity shapes the feature selectivity of neurons in behaving animals. Hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons display one of the most striking forms of feature selectivity by forming spatially and contextually selective receptive fields called place fields, which serve as a model for studying the synaptic basis of learning and memory. Various forms of synaptic plasticity have been proposed as cellular substrates for the emergence of place fields.

Individual and clinical factors associated with patient acceptance of referrals to social services and community resources at a multi-purpose resource hub.

Emerging evidence suggests that bi-directional communication and referral pathways, when employed strategically, can lead to favorable health outcomes by connecting patients with complex, multi-faceted health and social needs to appropriate services and resources. However, despite these benefits, patient acceptance of referrals via these pathways remains suboptimal. In this study, we describe individual and clinical factors associated with patient acceptance of these referrals.

Haven for Hope: A Transformational Campus Model to Address Homelessness.

Haven for Hope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been rarely described in the research literature but has become nationally known for its comprehensive homeless response system in San Antonio, Texas. Haven for Hope operates a 22-acre campus that includes a Transformational Campus and a Courtyard that serves over 9,000 clients annually, including chronically homeless individuals, veterans, children, and families. Haven for Hope offers a "one-stop" design that allows dozens of community partner organizations to provide housing, meals, healthcare, job training, education, childcare, and pet services on-site.

Virtual Home Care for Patients With Acute Illness.

Importance: Recent evolutions in clinical care and remote monitoring suggest that some acute illnesses no longer require intravenous therapy and inpatient hospitalization.

Objective: To describe outcomes of patients receiving care in a new, outpatient, virtual, home-based acute care model called Safer@Home.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This retrospective cohort analysis, conducted from September 1, 2022, through August 31, 2023, included 2466 patients treated at a safety net hospital in Los Angeles County for 10 core illnesses and 24 other acute illnesses for which patients are commonly hospitalized.
