Bone Mineral Density and Trabecular Microarchitecture Screening in Lung Transplant Candidates.

Purpose: Lung transplant candidates routinely undergo dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) screening due to increased risk of osteoporosis secondary to comorbidities and prolonged immunosuppression. Nonetheless, postoperative insufficiency fractures have been well documented, even in patients with normal bone mineral density (BMD). This study investigated the added value of trabecular bone score (TBS) as a complementary screening index of bone microarchitecture.

F-FDG PET/CT findings of erythema induratum.

F-FDG (fluorodeoxyglucose) accumulates in malignant tissues but also at the sites of infection and inflammation and in autoimmune and granulomatous diseases by the overexpression of distinct facultative glucose transporter (GLUT) isotypes (mainly GLUT-1 and GLUT-3) in cancer cells and inflammatory cells. A 75-year-old female with a history of skin rash with tenderness for 1 month underwent F-FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) to determine the presence of an underlying disease including malignant tumor. The F-FDG PET/CT showed hypermetabolic nodules at subcutaneous tissue (right upper arm, bilateral lower back and buttock, both thigh).

Heterotopic ossification (HO) is an unclear etiological trigger that results in diverse extra-skeletal bone formation in muscles and soft tissues. This often results in morbidity and reduced quality of life with pain, contractures, and mobility impairment. We present two patients with HO with a history of severe COVID-19 infection requiring 1-month-long mechanical ventilation.
