Case report of metastatic breast cancer mimicking ileal Crohn's disease.

Introduction: Lobular breast cancer (LBC) has an increased risk of gastrointestinal (GI) spread compared with ductal breast carcinoma. Breast cancer commonly metastasises to bone, lung, liver, central nervous system and rarely to the gastrointestinal tract. As the prognosis for breast cancer continues to improve with modern medical practice it is important to be aware of the various clinical presentations and the appropriate management of breast cancer metastases.

Metastatic Invasive Sweat Gland Adenocarcinoma of the Hand with Upper Limb Amputation/Shoulder Reconstruction.

A rare case of metastatic invasive sweat gland adenocarcinoma of hand in a 78-year-old woman is presented. From this analysis of the available literature, it seems that these rare primary tumors of the hand are aggressive tumors with little known about their biological behavior. Fluoropyrimidines, taxanes, and cisplatin have been reported to be active agents for metastatic sweat gland carcinomas.

Steroid-induced iatrogenic disease after treating for pseudothrombocytopenia.

Pseudothrombocytopenia, a spontaneous in vitro occurrence after the addition of anticoagulant to blood, causes clumping of platelets resulting in a spurious observation of low platelet counts (<10,000/μL) without any associated hemorrhagic manifestations. We describe a 46-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) based on a reported platelet count of 22,000/μL. He was prescribed high-dose glucocorticoid therapy, up to 60 mg of prednisolone daily for over a year.

White blood cell counts in healthy Jamaican adults.

The investigation of presumed neutropenia places a burden on the health services, especially those of developing countries, including Jamaica. This may be because the normal ranges used in the laboratory are based on the values generated from the Caucasian population. Previous studies looking at African and Afro-Caribbean groups have found lower counts for these populations compared with Caucasians.
