The development of red blood cell (RBC) storage lesion during hypothermic storage has long posed challenges for blood transfusion efficacy. These alterations are primarily driven by oxidative stress, concern both structural and biochemical aspects of RBCs, and affect their interactions with the recipient's tissues post-transfusion. Efforts to counteract these effects focus on improving the antioxidant capacity within stored RBCs, reducing oxygen exposure, and scavenging harmful molecules that accumulate during storage.

Coastal blue carbon ecosystems, typically comprising interconnected habitat mosaics, are globally important pathways of carbon sequestration and play a significant role in climate change regulation and mitigation. Current coastal management strategies often rely on simplified regional carbon stock estimates, that overlook the geographical variability and intricate ecological dynamics within these ecosystems. This study adopts a seascape ecology approach to evaluate the role of multiple seascape characteristics on carbon storage in two arid region coastal lagoons.

Purpose: Perioperative management of patients medicated with antithrombotics requiring elective intracranial procedures is challenging. We ought to (1) identify the clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and recommendations (CPRs) on perioperative management of antithrombotic agents in elective intracranial surgery and (2) assess their methodological quality and reporting clarity.

Methods: The study was conducted following the 2020 PRISMA guidelines for a systematic review and has been registered (PROSPERO, CRD42023415710).

Different mesoporous nanomaterials (MSNs) are constantly being developed for a range of therapeutic purposes, but they invariably interact with blood components and may cause hazardous side effects. Therefore, when designing and developing nanoparticles for biomedical applications, hemocompatibility should be one of the primary goals to assess their toxicity at the cellular level of all blood components. The aim of this study was to evaluate the compatibility of human blood cells (erythrocytes, platelets, and leukocytes) after exposure to silica-based mesoporous nanomaterials that had been manufactured using the sol-gel method, with Ca and Ce as doping elements.
