A 72-year-old male with a history of excessive alcohol intake (35+ units of alcohol daily) presented to the emergency department with bilateral vision loss, periorbital swelling, headache, and sinus congestion with bloody nasal discharge. He was newly diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and presented with severe diabetic ketoacidosis and a hypertensive emergency (blood pressure of 240/90 mmHg). Despite initial normal brain and orbital imaging, the clinical presentation was complicated by multiple life-threatening conditions and a prior immunocompetent status, thereby delaying the early suspicion of mucormycosis.

Although parenteral iron is widely used to treat iron deficiency anemia (IDA), some side effects have been inadequately explored. Hypophosphatemia is becoming a well-documented, yet poorly understood, side effect of parenteral iron infusion, oftentimes causing serious and/or prolonged complications. In this article, we discuss the case of a 33-year-old female with IDA who suffered debilitating physical and mental symptoms of significant recurrent hypophosphatemia following a single standard dose of parenteral iron administration.

Article Synopsis
  • * ELISA has been suggested as an easier alternative but struggles with antigen availability, particularly RABV glycoprotein, which requires high biosafety levels for use.
  • * The research tested insect cell extracts producing RABV glycoprotein and found it effectively detected rabies antibodies in vaccinated dogs, with a 90.48% sensitivity and 80.00% specificity, making it suitable for quick screening and monitoring vaccination efforts.

Facile access to some novel biologically relevant dihydrotriazolopyrimidine carboxylic acid-derived amide analogues using NMI/SOCl, and aromatic and aliphatic primary and secondary amines, is reported herein. The role of -methylimidazole (NMI) as the base and sulfuryl chloride (SOCl) as the coupling reagent has been effectively realized in accessing these molecules in good to excellent yields. The feasibility of the developed protocol has also been extended to the gram-scale synthesis of -benzylbenzamide in a 75% yield from benzoic acid and benzyl amine.

A novel gold (I)-catalyzed synthetic strategy has been achieved for an efficient construction of indenylidene derivatives from substituted 1,6-diynes. This reaction describes the unique reactivity of gold catalysis in facilitating the intramolecular [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement, 5-exo dig cyclization followed by 1,5-migration of acryl group, resulting in the formation of substituted indenylidenes. Various substituted indenylidenes were successfully synthesized with up to 92 % yields.
