Media advocacy for farm safety and health: current landscape and future directions.

Background: Within public health, media advocacy embraces the influence of new media and journalists in setting public agendas and promoting important public health programming and policies. Though occupational health and safety (OSH) is an important component of public health, few studies have examined the use of media advocacy within this specific field. This study aims to examine how media is currently used to support OSH efforts as well as opportunities for engaging with this strategy.

Redirecting immune signaling with cytokine adaptors.

Cytokines are signaling molecules that coordinate complex immune processes and are frequently dysregulated in disease. While cytokine blockade has become a common therapeutic modality, cytokine agonism has had limited utility due to the widespread expression of cytokine receptors with pleiotropic effects. To overcome this limitation, we devise an approach to engineer molecular switches, termed cytokine adaptors, that transform one cytokine signal into an alternative signal with a different functional output.

Associations Between Residency Program Size and Readiness for Unsupervised Practice in Pediatrics.

Objective: This study sought to determine differences in program reported entrustable professional activity (EPA) entrustment-supervision levels based on residency program size.

Methods: At the end of the 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24 academic years, entrustment-supervision levels for the 17 General Pediatrics EPAs were determined by clinical competency committees for graduating pediatric residents at 48 pediatrics residency programs. Programs were categorized as small, medium, large, and very large.

Measurement of residual stress in the brain.

Mechanical stress in brain tissue is an important feature of the brain, likely to play key roles in brain development and brain injury. Here, we characterize residual stresses in grey matter and white matter from the deformed shape of tissue cylinders extracted from the brain using a biopsy needle and imaged with high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We use finite element simulations to reconstruct the stress state of tissue sections in the intact brain from images of corresponding sections of the deformed excised tissue.

FoodCoach: Fully Automated Diet Counseling.

Unhealthy dietary habits are a major preventable risk factor for widespread non-communicable diseases (NCD). Diet counseling is effective in managing diet-related NCDs, but constrained by its manual nature and limited (clinical) resources. To address these challenges, we propose a fully automated diet counseling system FoodCoach.
