Background: Traditionally, urine analysis of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and phosphate (Phos) requires acidification of the sample. This study aims to assess the need for acidification and evaluate preanalytical factors that influence the accurate measurement of these analytes in urine.

Results: A total of 107 spot urine samples from patients with a median age of 9 years (95% ≤ 21 years of age, range 5 days to 46 years) were analyzed for Ca (n = 94), Mg (n = 97), and Phos (n = 102) with and without acidification.

Article Synopsis
  • * The external morphology of the metasoma (the hind body part) of nearly half of the 115 known genera and subgenera is described using 460 scanning electron micrographs.
  • * The paper includes annotated figures of metasoma structures, a list of 75 illustrated genera and subgenera, and discusses various morphological characters that may help define these wasps.

Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-associated disease is a neuroinflammatory disorder (MOGAD) with heterogeneous phenotype including paroxysms of optic neuritis, transverse myelitis, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, brainstem demyelination, and encephalitis. Fluid-attenuated inversion recovery hyperintense cortical lesions in MOG-associated encephalitis with seizures, or FLAMES, is a manifestation of cerebral cortical encephalitis seen less frequently than other typical MOG antibody-associated disease presentations. Cases of FLAMES are rarer in children, and frequently initially misdiagnosed with infectious meningoencephalitis.

This is the second in a series of studies that aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the morphological diversity of Mymaridae (Hymenoptera) or fairyflies, a monophyletic family of small parasitic wasps postulated to be the sister group of all other Chalcidoidea. The external morphology of the mesosoma of about 6575 taxa, representing 5565% of the 115 currently valid described genera and subgenera, is described and illustrated with almost 269 scanning electron micrographs, including 77 micrographs of the dorsal, 71 micrographs of the lateral, 59 micrographs of the ventral, 53 micrographs of the anterior, and 9 micrographs of the posterior views of the mesosoma. Twenty annotated figures of the external and major internal structures are given.

An analytical strategy for identification by an LC-MS/MS multitarget screening method and a suitable LC-MS/MS based quantification were developed for the psychotropic drug phenibut. The samples analyzed were collected during traffic control and were associated with driving under the influence of drugs. A positive sample for phenibut was identified in a single case of driving under the influence.
