Background: Traditional complementary and alternative medicine (TCAM) are products and practices that differ from conventional allopathic medicine. There continues to be an increase in the use of these methods of treatment in developed and developing countries worldwide. This often owes to the perceived ability of these treatment methods to cure chronic medical conditions like HIV.

Cryptococcal meningitis among perinatally HIV-infected adolescents: Case series on presentation and management challenges.

Diagnosis and management of cryptococcal meningitis in HIV-infected adolescents is challenging in poor resource settings. A high index of suspicion based on clinical presentation is critical for early identification and treatment. This report sought to describe the clinical presentation and outcomes of HIV-associated cryptococcal meningitis in adolescents.

Cryptococcal and Antigen Screening Among People With Human Immunodeficiency Virus in Ghana and Comparative Analysis of OIDx Lateral Flow Assay and IMMY Enzyme Immunoassay.

Background: Cryptococcal meningitis (CM) and disseminated histoplasmosis (DH) are common in people with human immunodeficiency virus (PWH) and diagnosed by detecting cryptococcal antigen (CrAg) and antigen (HistoAg), respectively. In Ghana, CM and DH are rarely suspected by clinicians due to limited epidemiological data.

Methods: This study was conducted among PWH in Ghana who are unwell.

Screening for cerebroprotective agents using an in vivo model of cerebral reversible depolarization in awake rats.

The need to screen cerebroprotective compounds without anesthetic interference prompted the development of a model using hypoxic rats. In this model two outcome measures were used: (1) the time to reach isoelectric electroencephalogram (iEEG), caused by nitrogen gas inhalation in the test chamber, and (2) the time for behavioral recovery measuring the latency of restoration of the head-withdrawal reflex upon vibrissae stimulation. We report here data of blood chemistry, cerebral tissue oxygen measurements, a definition of a proposed scoring system, and the pharmacological results of RGH-2202.
