Moreover, accurately quantifying these VOCs is challenging since ham is a complex matrix, which contains compounds from various chemical families and a wide range of volatilities of different molecular masses. In this study, we systematically optimized and validated an analytical method for quantifying VOCs in dry-cured ham using headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFNode centrality is one of the most frequently revisited network theoretical concepts, which got many calculation method alternatives, each of them being conceived on different empirical or theoretical network abstractions. The vast majority of centrality measures produced up to date were conceived on static network abstractions (the so-called "snapshot" networks), which arguably are less realistic than dynamic (temporal) network abstractions. The new, temporal node centrality measure that we offer with this article, is based on an uncommon abstraction, of a space-time network derived from service schedules (timetables).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: To describe uveitis-glaucoma-hyphema (UGH) syndrome secondary to a posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL) within the capsular bag in which pathogenic changes to the ciliary body were observed and treated with endocyclophotocoagulation (ECP).
Observations: An 85-year-old woman who had cataract surgery in her right eye four years ago presented with recurrent, unilateral, open-angle, hypertensive uveitis in her right eye. Her presentations were characterized by decreased vision, elevated intraocular pressure, corneal edema, a mixed anterior chamber reaction, and pigmented anterior vitreous cells.
As part of the Dynamics-Aerosol-Chemistry-Cloud Interactions in West Africa (DACCIWA) project, extensive in-situ measurements of the southern West African atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) have been performed at three supersites Kumasi (Ghana), Savè (Benin) and Ile-Ife (Nigeria) during the 2016 monsoon period (June and July). The measurements were designed to provide data for advancing our understanding of the relevant processes governing the formation, persistence and dissolution of nocturnal low-level stratus clouds and their influence on the daytime ABL in southern West Africa. An extensive low-level cloud deck often forms during the night and persists long into the following day strongly influencing the ABL diurnal cycle.
