Relief of morning stiffness: a comparative study of naproxen and ibuprofen.

Morning stiffness in 75 patients with mild to moderate rheumatoid arthritis was treated with 1600 mg ibuprofen 4-times daily or 750 mg naproxen twice daily after a placebo-induced flare of this symptom. With the final daily dose of each drug administered at bedtime, both drugs significantly reduced the duration and severity of morning stiffness compared to baseline values but, on average, duration of morning stiffness tended to be shorter for naproxen patients than for ibuprofen patients. No corresponding between-drug difference was found for severity of morning stiffness.

Intra-articular orgotein therapy in osteoarthritis of the knee. A double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

Intra-articular efficacy and long-term safety of orgotein, the drug version of Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase, were explored in a 24-week double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in patients with active osteoarthritis (ARA criteria) of the knee joint. Each patient received twelve intra-articular injections at biweekly intervals of orgotein (2 mg) or placebo dissolved in about 2 ml saline injection, USP. No other antiinflammatory medications were permitted.

Drug trial of superoxide dismutase in Duchenne's muscular dystrophy.

A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled drug trial in Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, evaluating a superoxide dismutase in 51 ambulatory patients for 18 months was conducted. Fourteen aspects of muscle strength and five of functional ability, as well as serum creatine phosphokinase (CPK) level were studied. The total change in strength, function, and CPK level did not differ significantly in the two groups.

Orgotein, a new drug for the treatment of Peyronie's disease.

Twenty-three patients with Peyronie's disease have been treated with the new anti-inflammatory metalloprotein drug orgotein, which exhibits pronounced superoxide dismutase activity. Administration was done into the indurated areas of the penis by a special syringe. Evaluation of signs and symptoms included measurement of the induration size and consistency as well as the degree of the deviation of the penis.
