A nitrosyl complex of Mn-porphyrinate, 1 has been synthesized and characterized. It was found to donate a nitroxyl anion (NO) to suitable acceptors in dichloromethane solution in the presence of visible light. The evolution of NO and the characteristic reaction with PPh in the presence of H confirms the NO/HNO donation.

In this study, mesoporous materials (MCM-41 and MCM-48) were synthesized and functionalized with an acid group through a post-synthetic modification method. A mononuclear Zn complex [Zn(dmp)Cl] (dmp = neocuprine) was also prepared and incorporated into a functionalized mesoporous material. Extensive characterization of the material married was carried out using techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) to evaluate the characteristics of modified materials.

Article Synopsis
  • Detection of bacterial contamination in daily dairy products is a global challenge; this study utilizes the Methylene Blue Reduction Test (MBRT) to quantify microbial presence in pasteurized milk.
  • A colorimetric change observed through the reduction of Methylene Blue to Leuco-MB allows for the detection of microbes, with a significant decrease in absorption at 664 nm indicating contamination.
  • The proof-of-concept developed demonstrates effective microbial count estimation, with detection limits of 0.32 CFU/mL and quantitation limits of 0.97 CFU/mL, aimed at ensuring safety and quality control for stakeholders in the dairy industry.

Mesoionic compounds, with positive and negative charges, are expected to have dual-site highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO, donor) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO, acceptor) reactivity. Herein, we report a novel class of air-stable mesoionic N-heterocyclic thiones (mNHTs) synthesized from abnormal N-heterocyclic carbenes (aNHCs). DFT studies revealed a highly polarized exocyclic thione moiety and computed Fukui function analysis suggests the dual-site HOMO/LUMO reactivity of mNHTs predicting donor property at the negatively charged 'S' center while acceptor property at the cationic imidazole ring.

Background: The intersection of race/ethnicity with disability is a critical dimension of mental health outcomes in later ages that remains under-investigated.

Objective: We examined the role of race-ethnicity in moderating the associations between functional disabilities and subsequent depression among Americans 51 and older and stratified into the two age-groups of midlife (51-64) and older adults (≥65).

Methods: Using a nationally representative sample of community-dwelling Americans (≥51; n = 7475) in the 2016-2018 Health and Retirement Study, we conducted bivariate and multivariable regression analyses.
