Juvenile stress, like that caused by childhood maltreatment, is a significant risk factor for psychiatric disorders such as depression later in life. Recently, the antidepressant effect of ketamine, a noncompetitive N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor antagonist, has been widely investigated.
