Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of three interventions—transvaginal uterine artery clamp (TVUAC), suction cannula (SC), and condom tamponade (CT)—for managing postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), a serious condition that can lead to maternal mortality.
  • Conducted as a randomized controlled trial, the researchers looked at women who experienced atonic PPH after vaginal delivery, measuring outcomes like blood loss and the time needed for each intervention to work.
  • Results indicated that both TVUAC and SC were similarly effective in managing blood loss, while CT performed worse, highlighting the need for further research in effective PPH management strategies.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the outcomes of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) in a rural community at Thrissur Medical College, India, highlighting the risks associated with maternal and fetal health.
  • - Findings reveal high rates of complications in affected pregnancies: 46.5% required cesarean sections, 37.2% experienced pre-term labor, 52.4% had low birth weights, and 9.4% resulted in stillbirths.
  • - The authors stress the importance of tailored management protocols for PIH based on unique patient demographics, advocating for better screening and monitoring to improve maternal and fetal outcomes.

The Confidential Review of Maternal Deaths (CRMD) in Kerala was started in 2004, with support from the World Health Organization and modelled on the United Kingdom Confidential Enquiries into Maternal Deaths. It is carried out by the Kerala Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with support from the government of Kerala. The leading causes of maternal deaths identified during the period 2004-09 were haemorrhage, hypertension, amniotic fluid embolism, heart disease and sepsis.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study successfully grew single crystals of Potassium Hydrogen Phthalate (KHP) doped with varying concentrations of the amino acid l-lysine (0.5 mol%, 1 mol%, and 2 mol%) using a slow evaporation method, leading to noticeable changes in crystal morphology.
  • - X-ray diffraction and Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the structural changes and successful incorporation of l-lysine into the KHP crystals.
  • - Thermal analysis indicated the crystal's dissociating nature, while nonlinear optical tests showed that crystals with 0.5 mol% and 1 mol% l-lysine had enhanced second harmonic generation compared to pure KHP.

By directional solidification, single crystal of Glycinium Picrate Mono Glycine (GPMG) was successfully grown by Sankaranarayanan-Ramasamy (SR) method. An optically transparent crystal of GPMG has been grown along 〈011〉 plane by a mixed solvent of acetone and double distilled water. The evaporation rate was controlled and a single crystal of 12mm diameter and 35mm length was obtained.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "K Ambujam"

  • - K Ambujam's recent research focuses primarily on maternal health, with significant studies addressing postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) management, the impact of pregnancy-induced hypertension, and maternal mortality reviews in Kerala, revealing critical insights into maternal morbidity and mortality trends.
  • - A randomized controlled trial investigated three interventions for managing atonic PPH, aiming to identify the most effective approach to combat this life-threatening condition, highlighting a significant gap in applied research and its implications for clinical practice.
  • - Earlier studies explored the implications of pregnancy-induced hypertension on maternal and neonatal outcomes, contributing to a deeper understanding of pregnancy-related complications while also addressing the growth and characterization of specialized single crystals for potential non-linear optical applications.
