Screening Approach for Chiral Separation of β-Aminoketones by HPLC on Various Polysaccharide-Based Chiral Stationary Phases.

Nine β-aminoketones were synthesized via Mannich reaction when benzaldehyde was condensed with some primary amines and acetophenone. The purified compounds were identified by using spectroscopic methods. The enantiomeric separation of these derivatives was carried out by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using several coated and immobilized polysaccharide stationary phases, namely, Chiralcel(®) OD-H, Chiralcel(®) OD, Chiralcel(®) OJ, Chiralpak(®) AD, Chiralpak(®) IA, and Chiralpak(®) IB using different mobile phases composed of n-hexane and alcohol mixed in various ratios or pure ethanol or isopropanol.

[Phlebotomus of Constantine: species captured in an urban apartment].

The authors report the results of the capture of sandflies, carried out in a ground-floor apartment of a suburb of Constantine (east Algeria), an urban focus of human leishmaniasis. Phlebotomus perfiliewi is the most abundant species observed.

[Visceral leishmaniasis in Algeria. Cases reported of visceral leishmaniasis (1985-1990)].

Following their epidemiological studies of visceral leishmaniasis in Algeria, the authors report in this survey 1122 cases diagnosed in different hospitals of the country from 1985 to 1990. The authors mention that after a temporary decline observed during the last decade, they take part to a disquieting course of this disease.
