A deep learning-based model to estimate pulmonary function from chest x-rays: multi-institutional model development and validation study in Japan.

Background: Chest x-ray is a basic, cost-effective, and widely available imaging method that is used for static assessments of organic diseases and anatomical abnormalities, but its ability to estimate dynamic measurements such as pulmonary function is unknown. We aimed to estimate two major pulmonary functions from chest x-rays.

Methods: In this retrospective model development and validation study, we trained, validated, and externally tested a deep learning-based artificial intelligence (AI) model to estimate forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV) from chest x-rays.

Widespread occurrence of copy number variants and fixation of pyrethroid target site resistance in () from southern Côte d'Ivoire.

Resistance to pyrethroid and organophosphate insecticides in the malaria vector () is conferred by a variety of genetic mutations, including single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and copy number variants (CNVs). Knowledge of the distribution of these mutations in mosquito populations is a prerequisite for establishing better strategies for their management. In this study, a total of 755 () from southern Côte d'Ivoire were exposed to deltamethrin or pirimiphos-methyl insecticides and were screened to assess the distribution of SNPs and CNVs known or believed to confer resistance to one or other of the insecticide classes.

Intraoperative hypovolemia as a possible precipitating factor for pituitary apoplexy: a case report.

Background: Pituitary apoplexy is acute infarction with or without hemorrhage of the pituitary gland. It is a rare but potentially life-threatening emergency that most commonly occurs in the setting of pituitary adenoma. The mechanisms underlying pituitary apoplexy are not well understood, but are proposed to include factors of both hemodynamic supply and adenoma demand.

Education and Socio-economic status are key factors influencing use of insecticides and malaria knowledge in rural farmers in Southern Côte d'Ivoire.

Background: Insecticides play a key role in rural farming; however, their over- or misuse has been linked with a negative impact on malaria vector control policies. This study was conducted amongst agricultural communities in Southern Côte d'Ivoire to identify which insecticides are used by local farmers and how it relates to the perception of farmers on malaria. Understanding the use of insecticides may help in designing awareness programme on mosquito control and pesticides management.
