Insights and innovations to mitigate aviation climate impact by 2030.

The aviation sector needs to work fast to address its impact on the environment. A small conference in Bristol brought together technologists, climate scientists, policy makers and activists to examine the issues. Here we report on presentations and discussions from the conference, exploring insights, innovations and policy implications critical for significant climate impact mitigation within this decisive decade.

Evaluation of the clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction related to the use of internal eye shields for electron external beam radiation therapy.

Introduction: Cancers around the eye are often treated using orthovoltage machines or by plastic surgery, neither of which are widely available in regional Australia. External beam radiation therapy (EBRT) using electrons and an internal eye shield is an alternative, relatively underreported technique which can provide similar cosmetic and functional outcomes. This report aimed to describe the process for the use of internal eye shields at GenesisCare Fraser Coast Radiation Oncology (GCFCRO) and the associated clinical outcomes and patient perceptions of the delivery and results of this procedure.

Internal carbon recycling by heterotrophic prokaryotes compensates for mismatches between phytoplankton production and heterotrophic consumption.

Molecular observational tools are useful for characterizing the composition and genetic endowment of microbial communities but cannot measure fluxes, which are critical for the understanding of ecosystems. To overcome these limitations, we used a mechanistic inference approach to estimate dissolved organic carbon (DOC) production and consumption by phytoplankton operational taxonomic units and heterotrophic prokaryotic amplicon sequence variants and inferred carbon fluxes between members of this microbial community from Western English Channel time-series data. Our analyses focused on phytoplankton spring and summer blooms, as well as bacteria summer blooms.

Student evaluation of an instructional video on how to use a national medicines information resource.

Objectives: The objective of this project was to obtain students' perception of an educational companion video designed to increase the understanding of a national medicines information resource.

Methods: An instructional video was developed to guide students in utilizing the online version of the Australian Medicines Handbook (AMH). All students enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmacy program during 2021 were given access to this video.

Pattern of multimorbidity in middle-aged and older-aged people with mild intellectual disability in Australia.

Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), also known as chronic diseases, now constitute a major proportion of ill-health across most adult and older populations including in people with intellectual disability. The current paper is a comparative analysis of prevalence of NCDs across mid-aged and older-aged people with mild intellectual disability.

Method: Comparative data comes from two cross-sectional surveys using similar methodology and timeframes.
