Background: Transplant-related hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection is a rarely recognized phenomenon with significant clinical importance given its potential to result in chronic hepatitis posttransplant.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated HEV diagnosis and treatment after liver, kidney, and heart transplant in a single center. We identified patients diagnosed with HEV by serologic testing and evaluated their treatment regimens.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the cost of the episode of care for primary rotator cuff repair (RCR) from day of surgery to 90 days postoperatively using the time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC) method. The secondary purpose of this study was to identify the main drivers of cost for both phases of care.
Methods: This retrospective case series study used the TDABC method to determine the bundled cost of care for an RCR.
Nineteen patients with intractable temporal lobe epilepsy who underwent anterior temporal lobectomy were given a highly specific memory battery (23 tests) pre- and post- (1 week; 1, 2, and 6 months; 1 and 2 years) resection. Sixteen of 23 tests revealed that memory performance of temporal lobe epilepsy patients was worse than normal controls prior to surgery (p < .001), while the most profound differences were seen in the remembering and generation of inferences from connected discourse.
