The outcome of perioperative wound infection after total hip and knee arthroplasty.

Forty-one consecutive patients with primary knee arthroplasty and 37 with primary hip arthroplasty, all with perioperative wound infections, were followed for 50 (12-130) months. Staphylococci (coagulase negative and positive) accounted for 74% of wound infections. Mixed organisms accounted for 10%.

Post vasectomy analysis: call for a uniform evidence-based protocol.

Background: Vasectomy is a safe and reliable means of contraception that is used by 42 million couples world-wide. There are no standardised guidelines in the follow-up of these patients to assess the efficacy of the procedure, however. Through this paper we aim to recommend a guideline that is both clinically effective and cost effective, and would avoid medicolegal debate.
